Clogged Floor Drains
Clogged floor drains are typically a sign of a sewer line clog. Most of these drains are located at the lowest level in your home and are prone to having sewage backup into your home which can cause massive damage. Don’t be a victim to an expensive mitigation and restoration process.

Do you need floor drain cleaning?
Dirt and debris from your basement floor can build up inside your floor drain. Over time this can cause clogged plumbing. Often if your mainline is plugged this can cause the floor drains to backup. Almost always flood drains are the lowest drain in your home. If your main sewer line is plugged (often due to tree roots) this can cause sewage to backup into your home. Having your drains cleaned can prevent this costly scenario from happening.
How are floor drains cleaned?
We have a variety of specialized tools designed to clean floor drains. Often we’ll use electric power snakes to clear the blockage but to also scrape away the buildup and debris from inside the drain lines. We use the right tool for the job.
If your clog is tough, we also offer water jetting to blast away anything that is causing the clog and leave you with a clean, flushed line. Whenever we perform sewer jetting on your main line we include a free video inspection.
How often should your floor drain get cleaned?
If your home is older or surrounded by trees we recommend scheduling regular preventive maintenance. Often over the course of a year these drains can accumulate enough dirt and debris to cause a clog.
Pro tips for keeping floor drains clear
- Make sure your floor drains have screen covers installed.
- Do not sweep debris into your floor drains.
- Ensure your floor drains are accessible. I.E. Do not cover them up. If you have a new floor installed make sure your floor drain works with the new flooring.
- Sewer Gas – If you smell sewer gas and don’t know why get outside your home and call us immediately. Hydrogen Sulfide (sewer gas) is toxic and flammable. It is listed as an extreme hazard. Imminent danger to life or health occurs at 100 parts per million. Causes olfactory nerve paralysis (may smell it for a while then your nose quits working) then starts to cause paralysis in other parts of the body (you’ll stop breathing). We have been HAZWHOPPER trained and know how to professionally deal with sewer gas.
- Sign up for a preventive maintenance plan. By having regular scheduled drain check-ups you can minimize emergency calls.
